Community Service
While teaching the game of basketball is our primary focus, we also want to address the importance of giving back to our community. Lawrence has supported us in more ways than we can count, and we feel it is our responsibility to give back. By stepping away from the court and into the community, our athletes can learn about responsibility and service. During each season we do a group community service project. These projects are decided by our players and coaches as one team. By having everyone involved in the decision process, we feel that we will see more motivation, engagement and satisfaction in the way these community service projects are carried out. We want to attach meaning to these projects with our young men, and letting them lead the way in each project is our method of doing that. Previous projects have included a food drive to help fill local elementary school food banks, and sending handmade ‘thank you’ cards to members of the United States Armed Forces. If you have any suggestions for community service activities, please contact one of your Kansas United staff or coaches.
Food Drive
During our 2017-18 season, Kansas United’s community service project will involve a series of food drives to provide for Heartland Community Health Center. For our first games of the Hoopsters season, November 26-30, we ask that all of our spectators bring non-perishable food items for admission to the games so we can stock their shelves before the holidays. We will be having a second and third opportunity for the food drive that will take place at different points throughout the season. We love that we can partner with this local site and provide for those in need in our own community!
